For almost 5 years (2009 – 2013) I took up the amazing opportunity created by Renew Newcastle to form an artist run co-operative and shopfront called ‘Make Space’ in the Hunter Street Mall, Newcastle. We made and sold our own hand made work and that of fellow local artisans. We held workshops and special events. We moved location 5 times to make way for commercial tenants (in a lot of cases the spaces we ‘renewed’ had been untenanted for years). We helped reinvigorate a flagging inner city, made a lot of cake and friends and memories, and had a blast.
You can read more about it in here in The Design Files.
